Snug As A

We found a wool rug we love for the babies' room...

It's a soft sage with a spray of ginko tree that blends perfectly with the bamboo floor. Right now it's unrolled in our livingroom so I can carress it with my eyes (and hands and feet) ... Brian is still painting the nursery.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch Changes

Brian and I happen to love professional pantry style shelving, so I was pretty impressed by this innovative diaper changing station.

Think Pink

I've purposefully picked out gender neutral things for babies instead of pink and blue, because I naturally prefer other colors, and so the twins can swap stuff. I don't think I've purchased a single pink thing for Baby A, but I saw this doll and my heart sort of exploded with girly excitement. She is going to be so much fun :-)

Mobiles

I love these mobiles. If I was having only one baby I would splurge in a nanosecond, but I am having two babies (yay!!) so I pause before I purchase. So many things I can do without, but I really do want two mobiles in the dream nursery Brian is building us. I searched etsy for wooden mobiles and did find better deals, but a girl can dream. And my dreams have a habit of coming true.

Out of Hibernation

We spent a lot of time looking for a simple, modern crib we could afford- almost impossible. I found a great deal at IKEA but went nuts trying to find a compatible mattress and sheets. Eventually Brian discovered a selection of mod baby furniture at Walmart. Whodathunk. Today I ordered two (twins!) of these. My first choice was a light natural wood but in the room we are redecorating (if you consider a spare room stuffed with moving boxes decorated in the first place) these will work. Our bedding will be basic, just oatmeal colored organic sheets or simple neutral stripes and small geometric prints, and NO bumpers or crib skirts. This is our first big baby buy. Exciting stuff!

Ugly Sweater Shirts

Get in touch with your inner Griswold.
These are almost as cool as the thrifted NASA tee shirts my entire family wore one year.

I keep hitting the snooze button on this blog.
Will write when I wake.

Beans, Beans...

Sunday seemed like the perfect time to try this black bean pumpkin soup, October 31, the right night for a smokey, simmering (slightly mysterious?) pot on the stove. I found this in the archives at Smitten Kitchen and kept it up my sleeve until Brian announced he'd really like black bean soup, soon, please. He doesn't usually go for pumpkin stuff, at least not baked into bread or stuffed into cream puffs or in a cup like a pumpkin chai latte drizzled with caramel. This recipe promised to be naked pumpkin- no sugar, no spice, no cream base. It was so easy to make and turned out exactly like I expected. Exactly like the picture. Except I didn't serve it with the seeds because I was way too lazy to carve a Jack O Lantern this year. Booo.

Socks & Stripes

I don't have Mociun money to plunk down on these awesome animal stripe tights, but I found an affordable alternative- just ten dollars at Target!

Here I'm wearing them with my new super-soft alpaca fleece socks.
